In Memory

Val Taylor

Val LeRoy Taylor, 81, passed away peacefully at his home April 19th in Plain City, Utah following a brief hospital stay. He was a lifelong resident of Plain City.

Val and Elizabeth (Hadley) were married in Plain City in 1970. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple in 1977.

Val dedicated 37 years of his career to Hill Air Force Base where he worked as a maintenance foreman and plane mechanic on the F4, and C-130y airplanes, retiring in 2002.

He had a remarkable talent for cooking and expressed his love for others through food, often bringing family together with his backyard cookouts. Known for his large vegetable gardens, Val generously shared his produce with friends and neighbors. He raised his sheep herd with the same do-it-yourself approach as he lived his life. His sheep for dummy’s manual was never far from the kitchen counter and helped avoid trips to the vet and saved the lives of many sheep.

In later years Val’s iPhone became his lifeline to the outside world, family, and friends. You may have received a random text message about the Jazz, Fremont, BYU, or an obituary for someone you did not know. You may have been added to a group text with photos of unfamiliar people.

Val’s greatest joy in life was his family and friends. Though he was known to be unapproachable and stern in his younger years, he transformed into a loving, talkative father-in-law, and grandpa when his children married, and grandchildren arrived. He did not quit talking until April 19th .

Val rarely attended church and when he did, he was never able to stay awake. Somehow, he and his saintly wife Liz managed to raise 3 devout members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Alice (Maw) Taylor, one brother Kelly, and one Sister Dixie (Stan) Moss. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Hadley), three children and eleven grandchildren. Brandon (Jaime) of Plain City – Hadlee, Jessica, Miles, Hayden. Jed (Alison) Taylor of Mahomet, Illinois – Anna (Tyler) Rich, Michael, Joseph, and Erin. Kate (Larry) Lewis of Plain City – Jace (Whitney), Ty (Aspen), and Raegan. And two brother Ross (Kathy) Taylor and Lenn (Mary) Taylor.

Val and I first met in junior high and have remained close friends ever since. Carol and I have truly enjoyed traveling with Val and Liz, sharing countless adventures, dinners, and a wide variety of activities together. They have become some of our dearest friends. I will deeply miss our fishing trips and the unforgettable stories that came from those experiences. Val was a fantastic fishing companion, and together we certainly kept the fish on their toes. I’ll also miss the many thought-provoking texts and emails we exchanged over the years.
