Charlene Ann Oaks Kimball, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, a beloved mother and grandmother, and a cherished friend whose grace, generosity, and quiet strength touched all who knew her.
Charlene was born on June 1, 1944, in Roosevelt, Utah, to LeRoy Oaks and Rozena Nelson, both from pioneer families. She grew up in North Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Weber High School, earning a scholarship to attend Brigham Young University. It was there she met the love of her life, Don Carlos Kimball.
Charlene and Don were married in 1966 and soon after graduated together from BYU, beginning a beautiful life centered on faith, service, and family. Together, they raised five children in California’s Bay Area and later in Cottonwood, where Charlene nurtured both her home and her community through dedicated church service and substitute teaching.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Charlene served in numerous callings, including Young Women’s President and Stake Relief Society President. In 2000, Charlene and Don moved to Sandy, Utah, and later to Provo. During this time, they served three missions: at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii, and on two Family Search missions—one in Washington, D.C., and another in Honolulu—where Charlene applied her love of history and handiwork to preserving records for future generations. Charlene’s talents were many. She was an accomplished seamstress who lovingly sewed clothing, quilts, toys, and gifts for family, friends, and charitable causes. She also loved gardening, reading, and hiking. Her quiet acts of service, creative spirit, and enduring faith left a legacy of love and devotion that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Charlene is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don Carlos Kimball; her children Kerri Kimball, Tally Butler, Don Kimball Jr., and Paula Leber; her grandchildren Braydon, Savannah, Zachary, Gavin, Benjamin, Adrian, and Ketra; and her brothers Harold and Ferron. Her daughter Heather Kimball, her parents, and siblings Hyrum, Annette, and Elaine preceded her in death. https://www.nelsonmortuary.com/obituaries/charlene-kimball
