Larry Bowcutt

Larry Bowcutt left for his heavenly home on January 20, 2024. Larry was born in Ogden, Utah, to Eva May Hunt Bowcutt and Richard Amos Bowcutt on May 7, 1944. Larry attended school in Ogden and graduated from Weber High School in 1962.

Larry played baseball and football and loved skiing. Larry was on the ski patrol at Snow Basin Ski Resort. He also rodeoed, winning a spot at the National High School Finals in Valentine, Nebraska, in bull riding and steer wrestling representing the state of Utah. He and his family moved to Parkdale, Oregon, right after graduation, and Larry attended Chevron School. After graduation, he moved to Arlington, Oregon, to work in the station. While living there, he met his wife-to-be, Emlie Kelley, and fell in love, and they eloped to Lewiston, Idaho, on March 27, 1964.

In 1966 they were blessed with their son, Kelley, and then in 1970 along came Gordon. They lived in Goldendale until the fall of 1970 and then moved to the family ranch in Roosevelt, Washington.

Larry enjoyed working for the OK Tire and Rubber Company for 10 years until they closed. He was kept on when they sold the company and transported equipment from Goldendale to Gunnersville, Alabama. Following that, he started his career in the paving industry. Larry started working for Interstate Paving Company in The Dalles, Oregon, and moved on to Dave Lopez Paving out of Salem, Oregon. Larry finished his career in paving with Bayview Transit out of Seaside, Oregon, where he also started his son Gordon’s career with paving in the fall of 1989. Larry came back to Roosevelt and broke ground on Rebanco Regional Landfill where he was key to the beginning footprint of starting the landfill. Throughout the years of service at Rebanco, he moved from equipment operator to construction foreman, working with both his sons for the company until he retired in 2009.

Larry loved bowling and golf and he was recognized as bowler of the year at Golden Lanes in Goldendale. One of Larry’s highlights was winning $10,000 in the Washington State Lottery. He never missed buying a ticket each week after that. Larry’s true love (other than his wife, Emlie) was rodeo. He was a long-time member of the NPRA as a competitor and judge.

Another highlight was working for stock contractor Danny Green. In 1994 he was very proud of his sons—Kelley, Gordon, and Jamie Wilsey—for starting the Gold Buckle Rodeo Company. Gordon and Jamie moved on to their own dreams, while Larry stayed with Kelley and continued their dream of Gold Buckle Rodeo Company. Larry helped out in any way he could to be a part of the rodeo.

Larry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Emlie; son Kelley and wife Patti; son Gordon and wife Kim; grandchildren Cassidy Rose Bowcutt and Dennis, Devon Holden, Marley Cooper, Taylor Fletcher, Holly Heilman, and Travis; Heather Beierle and Justin; great-granddaughters Paisley Hill and Hadlee Beierle; Larry’s rodeo family that lived with the Bowcutts: Carl Ryan, Joel Knapp Ned Cross, Charlie Barker, Bryan Barker, Nate Story, Bryan Marshall and Johnny Espeland; many nieces and nephews; and his sisters-in-law Ronna Bowcutt and Karen Mains.
